Hebrews
4:12 tells us "For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper
than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and
spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and
intents of the heart."
Ephesians 6:17 tells us, "And take the helmet of
salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God"
So we understand how God's Word can be used as an analogy comparing it's
effectiveness to a sharp sword. But can God's Word be used improperly??
When we use the sword-"the Word" as God intends us to, we use it in
Love and not in judgement. Yes, we remain firm in what God's Word says
and we pass on what will come to those who disobey but we are not to
pass judgement on them ourselves. We will all meet the Judge one day on
our own... But using the Sword improperly can have a reverse effect much
like Peter did in Luke 22:50 when he cut off the ear of the High
Priest's servant when they came to capture Jesus, of course we all know
that the Lord touched this man's ear and healed him and made it right.
But we to can sometimes use the sword-"Word" improperly and it also cuts off
ears, meaning improper use makes people not want to hear it.
We are to
share and spread the truth in Love, never arguing and never casting
judgement or condemnation. We are to share the truth as it is written
and assuring them that these things are not from our own minds but they
are from God's Word.
This next piece of information may be hard for
some to take but it must be passed on. Can humans ever become so
hard-hearted to the Lord and mock His Word to the extreme that we as
believers are to just let them be and suffer whatever fate comes to
them???? The sad answer is, Yes...
Jesus says in Matthew 7:6 “Do
not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine,
lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in
pieces." He is not saying we shouldn't share the truth with them but
once it becomes so apparent that they are not taking it serious and
continue to mock you and God's Word relentlessly, it is time for you to
move on. God will deal with them because they have not come to a place
in their life where they are ready to hear yet. Much like when Jesus was
captured and was taken back and forth between Pontius Pilate and King
Herod. The Lord spoke to Pilate but when He was taken before Herod, the
Bible tells us in Luke 23:9 that when Herod and Jesus met this is what happened-"Then he
questioned Him with many words, but He answered him nothing." Of course
we know how King Herod mocked Jesus and made a big joke of Him, but the
bible tells us when Herod mockingly questioned Jesus, that the Lord
answered him NOTHING... That my friend would be a scary place to be.....
We as believers should make the strongest effort to reach those
who do not have a relationship with God but those who are not ready to
hear we must leave behind until their hearts are ready. This does not
mean God abandons them, it means they haven't arrived at that place in
their lives where they have to look up.. God will deal with them no
matter what. We keep them in our prayers and we Love them just as the
Lord loves them.
